Additional Information for tomorrow’s swim meet 6/4/2021
June 4th
What should I bring?
- Blanket or chairs (pool deck chairs are not
available during meets) - Sunscreen/sun hat
- Towel/sweats
- Goggles
- Water
- Small bills!Money for the concessions: tomorrow’s meet will have donuts, coffee and Gatorade. (If you are willing to donate bulk items such
as fruit snacks, goldfish, granola bars, we’ll take them and sell them back to
you ;) - A sharpie (to write your swimmer’s events on
their arm….don’t worry, we’ll show you) - Patience – this is a dress rehearsal meet for
swimmers, coaches and YOU the volunteers who make the meet run)
Where should I sit if I’m not volunteering on the pool
deck during the meet?
- For this first meet, we ask that you sit on
the grassy area outside of the pool deck. We are following the guidelines put forth by the swim league. This may change throughout the season. - Come cheer on your swimmer on the deck when they
are swimming then return to your spot outside of the pool. - The baby pool is NOT open during swim
meets.
How can I best support my swimmer? AND have an efficient
meet?
- Familiarize yourself with the order of events
and know your swimmer’s events. These are
attached and will be posted at the pool in the morning. - Sharpie the event numbers and stroke/distance on
their arm (optional but handy!) - Help your swimmer know when their event is
coming up by following along on the event dry erase board. - Help your swimmer keep track of their goggles
between events. - Encourage your swimmer to be at the heating area
near the starting blocks when they hear “First Call” for their events.
Volunteers still needed for tomorrow’s meet. You have more skills than you think! Sign
up at Swimtopia.
- Timer – Are your friends in awe of your speed
texting skills? Put those fast fingers
to use and get a front row seat to the entire meet. Bring your own water-friendly
smart phone. Start, stop, record,
repeat. - Timer lead - Have been a timer before? The timing lead will not be assigned to a
lane but rather start their timer with each race as a back up for lane
timers. (think, feet up in the shade,
start, stop, repeat waiting to be called upon as the hero when a lane timer’s
stopwatch fails. You’ll feel just like
Batman.) - Announcer/starter shadow – Learn from
Jerry with the goal to start the following two meets. Do you love owning the mic at karaoke
night? Do you know how to read the room
and keep things moving? This job is for
you! - Clerk of course and assistant – check swimmers
in at the heating area. Get them
organized by lane by following the heat sheets. Did you boss around your siblings? Do you love to tell people where to go (in a loving and supportive way,
of course), we could use you as the clerk of course or assistant! Learn at this meet with the goal to do this
job again at upcoming home meets.
Looking forward
